What we are looking for
We’re looking for an Art Director who sees every brief as a chance to make something memorable. Someone who can think boldly, design beautifully, and lead others to do their best work. You bring ideas to life with craft, curiosity and taste, and you know how to turn creative ambition into something that truly connects.
As Art Director, you’ll partner with the Creative Director to set the creative vision for social and digital campaigns that define what fans talk about. You’ll guide a talented team of designers and motion artists - inspiring, challenging, and collaborating to produce exceptional visual work for some of the world’s biggest entertainment brands.
Salary: $6,000 per month
Location: Los Angeles, USA
What we're looking for
We're looking for a midweight/Senior designer with strong graphic and motion design skills; someone who loves the worlds of film and entertainment and wants to make visually exciting work in that space. This is a freelance contract for 20 hrs a week to work alongside our US Producer, and take handovers from the UK team each day. Flexibility is needed as the work never appears at the same time every day, an hour to be plugged in and working is the kind of notice you will need to agree. Its day time hours.
You’ll create social-first content ranging from beautiful visuals to impactful animations and punchy video edits. You’ll contribute ideas, shape concepts and craft visuals that feel modern, cinematic and culturally connected. This role is ideal for a designer who’s ready to level up, with real opportunities to grow your craft, your confidence, and your creative range.
We want to keep things simple and we have a 3 stage interview process
Once you apply for a role at Substance, we’ll review your details and if they match what we are looking for, we aim to contact you within a week. Unfortunately, as we are a small team, we are unable to reply and provide feedback to unsuccessful candidates at this stage
Once you are selected, you will have an initial call with either our HR team or the hiring manager to drill down on your skills and experience
We are an inclusive team, so please let us know if you require any reasonable adjustments to support you through the interview process.
If successful, you will have another call with other team members where we will also assess your situational behaviours. For some roles, the second stage would involve working on a specific task
The last stage will involve a call or a meeting in the office with the extended hiring team and, depending on the role, with the management team. If you were assigned a task in the previous stage, you will be able to present this back to the team.
If successful, you will receive our offer at this stage.
We will also contact all unsuccessful candidates involved in the different stages and provide some relevant feedback.
Don’t meet every single requirement?
Research shows that women and people of colour are less likely than others to apply if they don’t match 100% of the job requirements. Don’t let the confidence gap stand in your way, we’d love to hear from you! We understand that experience comes in many difference forms and are dedicated to adding new perspectives to the team.
Substance Global is committed to providing and fair, inclusive, and diverse work-environment. We believe that different perspectives lead to better ideas, and better ideas allow us to better understand the needs and interests of our diverse, global community with who we work. We welcome people of different backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives and are an equal opportunities employer.
