We track our energy use, waste, and water consumption to understand our footprint and make meaningful year-on-year improvements. This transparency supports our aspirations to be a B Corp with our goals and reflects our belief in doing better for our people, clients, and planet.

⚡ Energy & Electricity Emissions (Scope 2)

Year-on-Year Electricity Emissions

Reporting Year: 2023–2024

Electricity CO₂e Emissions: 33.4 t CO₂e

Reporting Year: 2024–2025

Electricity CO₂e Emissions: 17.3 t CO₂e

✓ 48% reduction in electricity emissions year-on-year

This reduction reflects changes in our usage patterns and improved efficiency across our offices.

Our Approach to Reducing Electricity Emissions

During our 2024/2025 reporting period, Substance Global generated an estimated 17.3 tonnes of CO₂e from electricity consumption across our main office locations.

Our electricity-related CO₂e emissions decreased significantly due to:

  • Hybrid working on fixed office days, which concentrated usage and reduced out-of-hours consumption
  • More efficient use of workspace, reducing the need for full-building heating, cooling, and lighting
  • Energy-aware behaviours, such as switching off unused equipment
  • Improved lighting, and office equipment usage, ensuring we power the office only when needed

These improvements reduced unnecessary energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable and productive working environment.

🗑️ Waste Emissions (Scope 3 – Waste Disposal)

Year-on-Year Waste Emissions

Reporting Year: 2023–2024

Total Waste Emissions: Data not recorded (We began formal waste tracking in 2024)

Reporting Year: 2024 - 2025

Total Waste Emissions: 0.62 t CO₂e (620 kg CO₂e) (Based on landfill and recycling disposal volumes)

Our Waste Reduction Commitment

We began formal tracking of waste-related emissions in the 2024–2025 reporting period.
During this year, our office generated 0.62 tonnes of CO₂e through a combination of:

  • General waste (landfill)
  • Recyclable materials (responsibly processed)

This baseline data enables us to build reduction targets and improve how we manage materials across our operations.

💧 Water Consumption (Scope 3 – Water Use)

Year-on-Year Water Consumption Emissions

Reporting Year: 2023–2024

Total Waste Emissions: Data not recorded (Formal water usage tracking began in 2024)

Reporting Year: 2024 - 2025

Total Waste Emissions: 0.82 t CO₂e (Based on metered office water consumption to date)

Our Water Impact

We recorded water-related emissions for the first time in our 2024–2025 reporting period.
Our metered water consumption resulted in 0.82 tonnes of CO₂e, forming our baseline for future reduction planning, efficiency measures, and responsible resource use.

🌍 Our Ongoing Commitment

We are actively working to:

  • Reduce emissions across energy, waste, and water
  • Improve efficiency across our office spaces
  • Increase staff awareness of sustainable working practices
  • Strengthen our environmental reporting year-on-year
  • Build toward long-term, measurable B Corp-aligned environmental goals

This is an evolving journey, and we are committed to continuous improvement and transparent reporting.
